Frequently Asked Questions
What content is included in RegBrief?
RegBrief includes the full 14 CFR (all aviation-relevant parts), 49 CFR Part 830 (NTSB accident reporting), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) with color figures, the Pilot/Controller Glossary, and a curated set of pilot-relevant Advisory Circulars covering aviation weather (AC 00-6B, AC 00-45H), pilot certification (AC 61-65J), stall and spin awareness (AC 61-67C), collision avoidance (AC 90-48E), and non-towered airport operations (AC 90-66C). All content is bundled on-device, so search and reading work without an internet connection.
Does RegBrief require an internet connection?
No, not for the core experience. All regulation text, search, and on-device Apple Intelligence features work fully offline once the app is installed. The only feature that needs a connection is the Pro tier’s cloud Q&A, which sends your question to AIVIATION servers and returns a cited answer. The app may also check for content updates when online, but that is optional.
What is the difference between Free, Plus, and Pro?
Free. Full text of 14 CFR, 49 CFR Part 830, the AIM, the Pilot/Controller Glossary, and the bundled Advisory Circulars. Full-text keyword search, study-by-certificate filtering, reading history, dark mode, and Dynamic Type. Always free, no account needed.
Plus — $2.99/month or $19.99/year. Adds bookmarks, highlights in multiple colors, notes, regulation change tracking with visual diffs, export, custom study collections, and on-device Apple Intelligence features (plain-English briefs and AI-enhanced search) on supported devices. (If you created bookmarks on an earlier release of RegBrief, those legacy bookmarks remain readable and removable on the Free tier; creating new bookmarks requires Plus or Pro.)
Pro — $5.99/month or $39.99/year. Everything in Plus, plus a cloud-powered Q&A service: ask any FAR/AIM question in plain English and get an answer with citations to the cited sections. Pro Q&A works on every iOS 18+ device (it does not require Apple Intelligence) and is the only feature that needs an internet connection.
Both paid tiers include a 7-day free trial. Cancel anytime.
What devices support the on-device AI features?
On-device AI features run on Apple Intelligence–capable hardware: iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 family or later, iPads with an M-series chip or the A17 Pro (iPad mini 7th generation), and Macs with an M-series chip. They also require iOS, iPadOS, or macOS 26 or later. Plus and Pro subscribers on older devices still get every non-AI feature in their tier — bookmarks, highlights, notes, change tracking, export, and custom collections. Pro’s cloud Q&A works on any iOS 18+ device.
How current is the regulatory content?
Content is fetched directly from eCFR.gov and FAA.gov and updated with each app release. We monitor regulation changes weekly and release updates as needed. The app shows the effective date of the bundled content in Settings → About. Always check the in-app version date for critical compliance purposes.
Can I rely on RegBrief for legal or regulatory compliance?
RegBrief is a reference tool for educational and informational purposes. Always consult official FAA publications, eCFR.gov, or legal counsel for regulatory compliance decisions. The app is not a substitute for official sources and should not be used as the sole basis for operational decisions.
